Over the next six months, we will be creating a series of fortnightly articles we hope will enlighten, educate and empower the lives of not only those with disability, but the families and carers that love and support them.

So what will we talk about?

Our articles will traverse topics of central and indeed fundamental importance to those in our community. From navigating the NDIS system to sensitive, thoughtful, yet informative articles on specific disabilities – we are hopeful our articles will bring something of value to every reader.

Our calendar of upcoming articles include:

August 8:
Housing Options for people with disability

Of central importance to many in our community, we will examine and identify housing options for those with disability. We will review Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) options, as well as mainstream rentals and leases, and look at availability, suitability and funding.

August 22:
Sensory products and programs

We will look at the importance of sensory products and programs and their impact on both those with disability as well as their families and carers. Diverse and of incredible value, we look at areas from health and wellness to communication, safety and security. We’ll also introduce you to a new range of products we carry and programs we offer!

September 5:
The NDIS journey – Choosing services

Yes, the one everyone’s been waiting for and yes, there is a way to easily and effectively navigate the NDIS process! We will provide you with a roadmap on how to best choose and control the services specific to your needs. As part of the NDIS articles, we will also highlight the Nepean Disability Expo to be held on Friday the 14th and Saturday the 15th of September where you can learn more about NDIS. Visit https://www.disabilityexpo.org.au/ for more information.

September 19:
The NDIS journey – Self-Management or Plan Management

Many people are unaware they have the option to self-manage their NDIS funds. We do note this is not a ‘free-for-all’ to spend! For those that want to feel empowered and can handle their own administration, we will provide details on how to go about this process.
We will also compare the differences of self-management with plan management.

October 3rd:
Technology and disability

There is some remarkable off-the-shelf and assistive technology available for those with disability as well as their families and carers. From voice recognition devices and robotics, to finger readers and ‘be my eyes’ apps on smartphones, there has never been a better time to enjoy technological assistance. We look forward to introducing some of this amazing technology to you!

October 17th:
National Carers Week – Caring for our carers

National Carers Week is about recognising and celebrating the outstanding contribution unpaid carers make to our nation. There are over 2.7 million family and friend carers in Australia providing 36 million hours of care and support every week! Our article will focus on some of these key statistics as well as highlighting an amazing story of caring, love and success.

Overall

We look forward to having you read our articles and hope you take something of value away from each one. To ensure they are interactive, we will be providing a feedback forum so encourage your inputs be they positive, negative or even new article ideas.

In the meantime and as always, we encourage you to reach out and Contact us at any time or leave a comment below, if you have any questions or would like to learn more about how we can help and support you.
