Occupational Therapy (also known as OT) is a treatment that uses assessment and intervention to develop, recover or maintain skills required for daily tasks and meaningful activities. OT can assist participants to achieve their needs and goals by building their knowledge and skills, finding new ways to do activities or making changes to the environment, tasks or equipment to suit their needs.
Areas that an OT can assist with include self-care tasks such as dressing or cooking, productivity tasks such as school, employment or care of others and leisure tasks such as play or socialising. Some other areas of specialty include social skills, sensory processing, self-regulation, motor skills, falls prevention, mobility, assistive equipment, home modifications and functional assessment.
